Here, the local drainage and sanitation companies used the digital yuan to settle an electricity bill of approximately $83,000. Similarly, the Suzhou Chuangtai Alloy Materials Company cleared an electricity bill of around $73,000 using its digital yuan wallet. Moreover, the SGCC’s local office has pledged to implement “full coverage” of digital yuan energy payments in the city, further indicating the growing acceptance of this mode of payment.

Future Prospects

In addition to the energy sector, other arenas are also opening up to the digital yuan. The city of Zhangjiakou, a venue for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, is preparing to roll out a plethora of digital yuan applications.
